Oil & Gas Summit CIS
A forum for innovative oil and gas exploration and production leaders in Russia & the CIS
The global oil and gas industry is currently experiencing an influx of pain points. A perpetually increasing energy demand, fluctuating commodities prices, rapidly depleting natural resources, and social and environmental considerations only tap the surface. The Euro Zone crisis and a lagging U.S. recovery following the global economic fallout are impacting oil and gas organizations all over the world. As a thriving industry with some of the most extensive reserves on the planet, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States are emerging with remarkable potential.
Russia and the CIS have proven themselves to be among the worlds leading oil and gas destinations in recent years. Russia has the worlds largest natural gas reserves, the ninth-largest crude oil reserves and is the largest producer and exporter of natural dry gas. The country was the second-largest global producer of both oil and natural gas in 2011, and its underdeveloped resources in the East Siberia, Caspian and Yamal regions are currently attracting the attention of foreign investors. In Kazakhstan, rising production of oil and natural gas in the past decade has seen the country go from a net gas importer to opearting self-sufficiently, while The Shah Deniz offshore oil field in Azerbaijan is on track to become one of the biggest projects in the world, the products of which will go to Europe and help reduce the countrys dependence on Russian oil.
But while many are optimistic about the regions oil and gas outlook, Russia and the CIS are experiencing a number of challenges effectively hindering growth and keeping the industry from reaching its full potential. Companies operating across the region are dealing with infrastructure inefficiencies, keeping up with technological advancements, resource nationalism, obsolete refining capacities, geographic and economic obstacles, evolving HSE regulations and host of other industry concerns. Todays leading oil and gas companies in Russia and the CIS must stay on top of current industry challenges and trends to remain competitive as the region adapts to the changing energy landscape and prepares for future success in the global market.
